  • The Wisdom of Chinese Nutritional Therapy for the Modern Microbiome

    Presenter: Ellen Goldsmith, MSOM, LAc
    Original Date: September 24, 2022

Chinese medicine has always understood that food and medicine are inseparable. This talk will review the unique perspective of Chinese medicine on the gut and its relationship to physical and mental health and well-being, and connect this with the modern concept of the microbiome. Chinese Medicine brings an energetic perspective to the ongoing conversation and we will review this in relationship to understanding gut health.

  • Microbiome, Nutrition, Metabolites and the Immune System

    Presenter: Heather Zwickey, PhD
    Original Date: September 24, 2022

Nutrition, medications, social interaction and other environmental factors shape the microbiome. As the microbiome responds to the environment, it produces metabolites that interact with many body systems, including the immune system. Exploring pathways by which each of these environmental factors impacts immunity allows us to take control of our health. This seminar will examine different ways to manipulate the microbiome to bring the immune system into balance as we reconnect with each other. Whether through specific oligosaccharides, polyphenols, probiotics, postbiotics, or simply sampling other people’s microbiomes, there are several options to consider for preventing immune-related illness.

  • Integrating Microbiome Science into Precision Clinical Nutrition

    Presenter: Andrea McBeth, ND
    Original Date: September 24, 2022

The human microbiota is central to the way our body processes and interacts with the food we eat. The past two decades have provided a huge variety of research relating to how nutrition can uniquely impact our patients. In this presentation I will overview a brief history of microbiome science and where it is going in relation to precision medicine.

  • A Review of the Microbiome and Nutrigenomics - Connections to some Chronic Conditions

Presenter: Leah Hollon, ND and Carrie Hoefer, PhD
    Original Date: September 25, 2022

Dr. Hollon (ND) and Dr. Hoefer (PhD) will present on their recently published paper: The Role of the Human Gutnome on Chronic Disease A Review of the Microbiome and Nutrigenomics. The paper connects Nutrigenomics and the Microbiome. Nutrigenomics (also known as nutritional genomics) is growing field. It is broadly defined as the relationship between nutrients, diet, and gene expression. The paper (co-written also with Jennifer Campbell) connects dots of the links between nutritional interventions, pharmacological interventions, chronic conditions and genetic information drawing in the main on Dr. Hollon's work with autoimmunity issues, MTHFR mutations, fertility, naturopathic cancer support and neurological issues.

  • How Stress Impacts Digestion, Microbiomes, and Vice Versa: Taking Nutritional Care of Our Microbiomes

    Presenter: Chelsie Falk, ND
    Original Date: September 25, 2022

Stress is modern day reality which affects our bodies through a range of physical processes that impact nutrition and are impacted by nutrition. Stress also outwardly affects us through varied means including patterns of eating, growing and procuring food down to specific food choices to food preparation. Dr. Falk will take a closer look at these puzzle pieces of stress.
