    In this presentation, participants discuss patient scenarios and learn about physiologic changes with aging that impact medication use. Additionally, changes with aging that impact specific medications and chronic conditions are addressed. Recommendations for de-prescribing, tapering, or choosing alternative therapies are given.

    Specific medications to be discussed will include: Vicodin, Norco, Percocet, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Morphine, Valium, diazepam, Xanax, alprazolam, Ativan, lorazepam, Benadryl, Tylenol PM, Advil PM (anything PM), Ambien, zolpidem, Lunesta, cold medicines, bladder medicines (Detrol, Oxybutynin, etc), muscle relaxers, Zantac, ranitidine, Pepcid, and famotidine.

This presentation provides an update on changes in geriatric naturopathic medicine, as well as address some of the most common aspects of geriatric care that are poorly understood or can create apprehension for newer physicians. More doctors are required in geriatric care and naturopaths are well-suited to filling this gap, but need to feel confident and comfortable in doing so.
